DBU Pesticide Support Initiative: Weed suppression in field vegetable production based on a sprayable two-component mulch material made from renewable ressources (MuNaRo)
Project
Project code: 35896/01-34
Contract period: 01.01.2021
- 21.12.2022
Purpose of research: Applied research
In vegetable cultivation on fields, herbicides are used for weed control. Herbicides can damage ecological systems and are harmful for human health. The research objective is to limit the use of herbicides. As an alternative to the use of chemicals, mechanical options are known, e.g. weed cultivators. Additionally, there are physical methods to prevent weed from growing, as applying mulch film. Mechanical and physical weed control is time consuming and cost intensive. A new procedural approach is the use of sprayable mulch materials that are of biogenic origin and biodegrade in the end of their functional life.
