The goat husbandry in North Rhine-Westphalia has a long tradition. However, the change of the goat 'from the cow of the little man,' which was used for self-sufficiency, through to farm animal takes place slowly in North Rhine-Westphalia. Of the 4,130 goat farms in North Rhine-Westphalia only 40 farms seem to are of commercial nature.
