Project code: REFORDAT-75, AZ II-1-F 41-2010.04
Contract period: 01.05.2010 - 30.04.2012
Budget: 78,482 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Due to more awareness of animal welfare aspects in the society, a critical reportage about increasing chronic respiratory diseases of farmers and more environmental problems in the neighbourhood of animal facilities more attention to dust loads in stables should be paid in the scientific community. The aims of the planned research project are to measure the actual situation of dust loads in typical animal houses and to evaluate them in relation to animal welfare, labour conditions and environment protection. Additionally some dust reduction technologies shall be investigated in short term trials to test the reduction efficiency. In consequence proofed advices could be given for further reduction methods. The investigations shall be made in typical animal houses together with the chamber of agriculture in NRW. Due to 24-hour measurements with continuously working devices load tracks of dust concentrations over the day can be determined. Investigations of dust reduction technologies shall be made in three stables (min). Here the air quality and the dust emission rate shall be recorded, analysed and compared. The results shall be published, used for advising and education.
