Purpose of research: Basic research
Natural forest reserves are forest resources that are dismissed from the management with an average size of 40 hectares. They represent the natural forest occurring in Hessen. Role of natural forest reserves is mainly carried himself developing forest ecosystems, their land, their forest structure, fauna, flora and vegetation. From the results of the Natural Forest Reserves Program are natural consequences for silviculture practices and standards for nature conservation in forests derived. These are comparable economic forests (so-called comparison areas) with the same methodology are investigated. Hessen is the first state, in its natural forest reserves program in particular to better understand the biodiversity of our forest ecosystems, a focus on the long-term collection of large parts of the forest fauna has. The intensity of their Europe-wide unique zoological investigations since 1990 by the Forschungsinstitut Senckenberg in Frankfurt.
