Within this project, multilingual e-learning modules to improve animal welfare during transport and slaughter of cattle and pigs were developed. Primary target groups included employees of transport companies and abattoir personnel, often with lower educational background and limited German language capability. Through systematic reviews and expert elicitation, relevant action points along the transport-slaughter process chain were identified, and 13 modules (10-15 minutes each) enriched with pictures, video sequences, animations and interactive elements developed in 6 languages (DE, EN, PL, BU, RU, HU). Legislative as well as scientific background material was provided in a glossary. The web-based platform was released on 30.09.2023 and is freely available (tetfolio.fu-berlin.de/web/eschults2). Access is monitored and feedback used to implement corrections when necessary. The developed training modules are geared towards the educational and language background of the target groups with the intention to be used in animal welfare trainings in transport companies and at abattoirs.
