Project
Project code: TI-BW-08-138, TI-BW-08-PID1506
Contract period: 01.09.2013
- 29.02.2020
Purpose of research: Applied research
The objectives on the Southeast Asia Network on rice production economics, financed by FAO, are to establish a cross-country database on basic production costs and profitability for rice and other competing crops in typical farms in key major rice production regions in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR and to build up a network of qualified rice production and market economists. The agri benchmark Cash Crop Team will identify local partners together with the FAO and specify study areas and farms in each country. To get local partners used to the concept of the Southeast Asian agri benchmark rice network a workshop is going to be held in Bangkok in March 2013. Local partners are going to be trained in using the appropriate software ‘TypiCrop’, will collect data on typical farms, run cost calculations and the data will be jointly analyzed with the agri benchmark Cash Crop Team. Results about typical regional farm economics and the rice value chains will be presented at a workshop in Viet Nam in December 2013.
