Description
Community Medicine (CM) means population-based, medical research with a strong link to medical practice and daily routine health care. Analysis, intervention and evaluation in research projects in the regional population are one main topic in CM in Multiple disciplines including medicine, dentistry, epidemiology and biometry, social medicine, demography, psychology and medical informatics are essential tools for making CM work. Main subjects in CM research are analytic epidemiology and risk factor research, health care epidemiology, and health system analysis. CM in is central in teaching students of medicine and dentistry. Innovative teaching concepts include early training in physician-patient-relationship, problem-based learning (PBL), and internships in family doctors’ practices. The Institute for Community Medicine is responsible for program development of the CM colloquium and is taking part in organizing continiuous medical education (CME) / continiuous professional development (CPD) for general practitioners. Innovative models for prevention and health promotion, out-patient and hospital care, rehabilitation, and nursing will be developed and implemented based on outcome of the population-based studies and evaluations in the region of Pomerania. Aims of CM at the University are to improve the quality of life of the regional population and to secure high-standard health care in Pomerania in the long run.
