The goal of FreshRegio is to strengthen the regional agriculture and food chain through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) methods. The combination of advanced near-infrared sensor technology and AI simplifies fruit and vegetable quality testing and shelf-life forecasting; building on this, AI applications enable quality-based value-added services that contribute to more efficient use of fruit and vegetable and avoidance of food waste. FreshRegio provides a platform, the FreshRegio Cloud, for harnessing AI value-added services. Within FreshRegio's framework, AI-based value-added services for transparent communication of quality, shelf life and trade recommendations are connected to the public platform of the Regiothek. Thus, the benefit becomes available along the LLK. The project focuses on regional fruit and vegetable value chains in the area of Bavaria. The intended regionality of the project allows local producers to differentiate themselves from international producers through quality instead of price competition.
