The research carried out in the Department covers the following main topics: * pathophysiology and pharmacology of diseases of the central nervous system, such as epilepsy and extrapyramidal disorders * pathophysiology and pharmacology of diseases of the skin * toxic, particularly carcinogenic effects of electromagnetic field exposure For investigation of these topics experimental in vivo and in vitro methods are in use, including experimental techniques of behavioural pharmacology, biochemistry, physiology, behavioural and analytical toxicology and pathology. The experimental work serves to improve pharmacotherapy and to reduce health risks for both humans and animals.

- Collaborative project ESBL- and (fluoro-)quinolone resitance in enterobactericeae (RESET). Project IP1 characterization of newly emerging mechanisms for transfer of resistance to ß-lactam antibiotics with extended spectrum (ESBLs) and (fluoro) quinolones in German-Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli isolates from healthy poultry and pigs and products thereof
- Development of an in vitro model (skin culture from slaughtered animals) to study the influence of compounds on wound healing.
- Equine precision cut lung slices as an in vitro model of obstructive airway diseases for the identification and characterization of drug targets
- Gastric cell lines to substitute native cells of the gastric gland to study acid secretion in special consideration of preclinical studies
- Reducing the input of veterinary medicines in the environment with better degradable sulfonamides
- RESET-II: Network project 'ESBL and Fluorchinolon-Resistence in Enterobacteriaceae'. Subproject IP7
- The isolated perfused bovine udder as an in vitro model for the evaluation of sensibilisation/sensitisation induced by chemicals
