Fruit Breedomics - integrated approach for increasing breeding efficiency for fruit tree crops (Fruit Breedomics)
Project
Project code: JKI-ZG-08-1121
Contract period: 01.03.2011
- 31.08.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
Fruit breedomics is aimed at the improvement of fruit breeding in Europe, to face the challenges of global climatic changes and international competition. Therefore, the gap between genetic research output and applied breeding shall be closed and tools for efficient selection shall be developed. Furthermore genetic resources, collections and breeding material, will be screened with molecular methods to exploit genetic diversity and to discover valuable alleles for breeding. Fruti breedomics is restricted to apple and peach. This European project promotes the task apple breeding of the JKI to establish apple cultivars suited for a sustainable, environmentally sound production.
