Breeding work on parthenocarpic cucumbers with a high resistance to pathogens for organic farming
Project
Project code: JKI-GF-08-1200
Contract period: 01.01.2017
- 31.12.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
Cucumber is a widespread vegetable with a high economic dimension in organic farming. There is a great need for research into breeding for organic farming. Seedfast varieties, which are well adapted to organic farming conditions, of good product quality and high resistance to pathogens, are lacking in practice. The aim of the project is to breed several almost exclusively female cucumber varieties for organic farming being of good health, requiring little, taste good and yield well. An emphasis of the project will placed on the test of varieties/lines for their resistance to diseases. Finally, the development of new varieties for organic farming should contribute to strengthening the organic production of vegetables.
