Effects of different dietary Se-sources for cows on Se-bioavailability from their milk
Project
Project code: BfR-LMS-08-1322-328
Contract period: 01.09.2008
- 31.12.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research
Organic trace element sources are becoming more and more important. Nevertheless, con-tradictory data are available concerning the effects of these sources on the trace element content and compounds in milk. In the course of a feeding trial currently running at the re-search farm of the BfR cows are fed organic and inorganic selenium sources. Resulting milk and samples are planned to freece dried and incorporated into piglet diets. The results are expected to allow a better assessment of the bioavailability and effects of Se from these different milk samples on health and immunity of piglets and on the composition of their or-gans and carcasses.
