Evaluating climate effects of the forest and timber sector on the local level (BEKLIFUH)
Project
Project code: 28W-B-4-017-99/02/03/04
Contract period: 01.10.2014
- 30.11.2016
Budget: 404,939 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The forest and timber sector contributes the climate change mitigation by carbon sequestration in forests and long-lasting timber products as well as by emission reduction resulting from the material and energetic timber utilization. The current project builds on the general objectives of the “Forest Climate Fund (Waldklimafonds)” by supporting forest management planning on the local level. A software-based tool is developed and made available for forest enterprises. It supports the assessment of distinct options for forest management and timber utilization with respect to emission and energy reduction potential. Objective information is provided that allows for the holistic evaluation of future options by utilizing the synergies between climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as protection of biological diversity.
