FOR 536 Z1: MAGIM project coordination, coordination of MAGIM spatial experiments and development of a Geo Information System (GIS) for the Xilin river catchment
Project
Project code: DFG FOR 536
Contract period: 01.01.2004
- 01.01.2016
Purpose of research: Basic research
MAGIM PZ is a project for coordinating activities of participating German and Chinese MAGIM research projects. It supports MAGIM by providing logistic facilities (e.g. car pool, hiring of local workers), supervising joined research tasks (e.g. organisation, documentation, management and utilisation of MAGIM key sites), providing regional information (GIS) and organizing meetings (and scientific exchange) and workshops as well as handling public relations. To do so, the speaker of MAGIM is supported by a scientific assistant (Dr. Blank, coordinator) and a Chinese secretary (Mrs. Yuandi Zhou).
In MAGIM II these activities will be continued, and the web based database, providing access to project results and geo-information about the Xilin river area, will be continuously updated and expanded, e.g. to providing detailed regional information for a series of parameter for the envisaged MAGIM model framework. Furthermore, PZ will organise three joined activities, which are beneficial for all MAGIM projects: a) the irrigation experiment among others for evaluating potential non-water limited plant growth, b) the large scale spatial experiment for improving our knowledge on regional distribution of soil and ecosystem properties, and c) the ultralight experiment which will provide information on regional patterns of energy, water and CO2 fluxes as well as on other parameters (LAI, roughness, soil-T, soilmoisture).
