SFB 564: T4 - Multi-sensor inline system for non-invasive mango quality assessment during postharvest processing by fruit export industries in Thailand
Project
Project code: DFG SFB 564
Contract period: 01.07.2011
- 30.06.2014
Budget: 370,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Postharvest quality criteria of mango fruits as well as the potential of non-destructive techniques for their measurement have been the subject of much research. Certain sensor technologies are especially applicable for the food industry such as near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), gas sensors, acoustics and machine vision. These technologies can be used for determining physicochemical qualities, size and shape as well as for detection of defects and biological infestations. The objective of the proposed research is to refine and upscale non-invasive optical sensor technologies for detecting quality as well as presence of diseases and defects in mango. The above mentioned approaches will be included in the research to identify optimal combinations and parameter settings for sensor fusion. A sorting system will be developed together with partners until prototype stage.
