Section overview
Description
Objectives of the research are analyses of plant processes and development of mathematical models in order to derive strategies for plant production in greenhouses and in the field. The models are used to quantify the impacts of control strategies on economic outcome, product quality and environment, providing thereby decision support in the management of the complex system 'plant production'. The process of model development and model validation is used to reveal processes that need more research since differences between experimental results and model estimations can make gaps in knowledge more clear. Validated models are used by means of simulation techniques in addition to experiments by testing control strategies with a comparatively low expenditure of time and costs. Results of the research are integrated in decision support systems (e.g.N-Expert). Usability and benefits of the decision support systems are checked in pilot projects together with farmers and advisers.
