Improving availability of food for honey bees and blossom-visiting insects by attracting long-flowering perennials gaining energy and increasing biodiversity - project term 2 (Winterbiene II)
Project
Project code: G2/N/18/06
Contract period: 01.01.2019
- 31.12.2021
Purpose of research: Applied research
Many of the approximately 550 bee and bumblebee species have become rare or threatened with extinction due to lack of food supply. Because of their important function as pollinators, this can have serious economic consequences. For the honeybee, the lack of pollen in August / September is particularly problematic because it affects the rearing of winter bees. The massive decline in insect populations in Germany is now scientifically proven. There is an urgent need for action. Agriculture can make an important contribution with species-rich perennial wild plant mixtures for biogas production (WPM) in order to promote insects and field birds in the agricultural landscape.
