Studies about the trend of hybrid superiority in progenies from crosses between European and Japanese larch
Project
Project code: vTI-FG-08-38
Contract period: 01.02.2005
- 31.12.2010
Purpose of research: Applied research
The superior growth of hybrids between European and Japanese larch is known since more than 100 years. Many programmes were initiated and carried out for breeding of hybrid larch (Larix x eurolepis Henry) in the past. The development of the superiority of the hybrids in comparison to the parent species is an important problem in this context.
The Institute for Forest Genetics and Forest Tree Breeding is responsible for nearly 50 progeny tests with hybrid larch. Today many of these tests are older than 30 years. These trials have been measured to several times. Therefore time series are available showing the development of growth and quality traits of the trees. These series will be completed and used for the analysis of growth trends for hybrid larch in the frame of this project. It is the aim to get informations about the growth of older hybrid larch in a relation to the pure larch species.
