Chicory as a multipurpose crop for dietary fibre and medicinal sesquiterpenes (CHIC)
Project
Project code: JKI-SG-08-2220
Contract period: 01.01.2018
- 31.12.2022
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: root chicory, inulin, sesqiterpenes, synthesis of antibiotics, pre-biotics, risk assessment
The aim of this project is to develop and implement new plant breeding techniques (NPBT), with the purpose to adapt architecture and biosynthetic pathways of root chicory. In this way CHIC will improve the production, quality and storage of inulins as well as sesquiterpenes. With respect to applications we will focus for inulins as food fibers (e.g. pre-biotics) and for sesquiterpenes as anti-microbials (e.g. antibiotics and preservatives).
