Method comparison of isolation procedures for Yersinia enterocolitica from tonsils of slaughter pigs
Project
Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1329-436
Contract period: 01.09.2010
- 31.08.2011
Purpose of research: Basic research
Yersiniosis is the third most common zoonotic disease in Europe. EFSA has proposed a harmonized procedure to determine the prevalence of the pathogen. The reservoir for Yersinia enterocolitica is the pig. EFSA has developed a method to determine the prevalence of the pathogen by examining the tonsils of slaughter pigs. The EFSA 'technical specification' describes two methods for the isolation of the pathogen. Due to insufficient experience in the application of the two methods the consiliary laboratory for Yersinia needs a comparison of both isolation procedures.
