Purpose of research: Applied research
Glyphosate is a substance, which is incorporated in many herbicides worldwide. Glyphosate inhibits the synthesis of aromatic amino acids and results in the death of plants. In trans-genic plants of the new generation the genetically associated tolerance to glyphosate is used to apply such herbicides more and more. Glyphosate have a low toxicity compared with other herbicides and is well tolerated to the environment. However, actual glyphosate is in discussion to influence the microbial population in the rumen of cows. The mechanism could be an induction of potentially pathogen clostridia, which could result in animal disease and potential risks for the consumer safety.
