The increasing importance of corn leads to an enrichment of the soil borne malicious pathogen Rhizoctonia solani, particularly in cultivation as a rotation crop of sugar beet. The susceptibility of maize against Rhizoctonia solani subsequently leads to a proliferation of infectious fungal material in the ground causing an infestation of the beets. In sugar beet, the disease leads to severe losses in the youth stage or subsequently to late root rot. In addition to yield losses, internal quality parameters such as sugar, sugar yield, and net income of sugar (BZE) are adversely affected by infestation of the beet body.
