Fine mapping of economically important genes in carrot (Daucus carota L.)
Project
Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4159
Contract period: 01.01.2012
- 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
Carrot is the economically by far most important crop in Apiaceae family. Growing area as well as yield increased worldwide contineously over the last years. Continuation of this high yield and quality level under changing climatic conditions is only possible using marker assisted breeding methods for resistance against biotic and abiotic stress factors. Prerequisite is a high-density map. Aim of the project is to detect quality and resistance associated substances and to map important genes.
Raw maps of carrot developed in former projects had limited resolving power. For fine mapping a F2 population with a lot of polymorphisms for interesting traits has been selected. Using common SSR- and SNP markers the map should be integrated with maps developed in parallel by two other scientific groups worldwide. At the same time the map will be used as a basis for high resolution QTL mapping. The cooperation with institute ÖPV will be very intensively.
