Differentiation and quantification of leaf diseases on the basis of their spectral signature
Project
Project code: 0315530
Contract period: 01.01.2009
- 31.12.2014
Purpose of research: Basic research
Precise, reproducible and objective estimates of plant diseases are important in plant breeding for the selection of disease resistant genotypes or in fungicide screening. Disease assessments by a human eye are time consuming and associated with day and rater depending estimate errors. An objective and automatic detection of leaf diseases on barley with different optical sensors has the potential to increase the efficiency of plant phenotyping and high-throughput screening under controlled conditions and even in the field. Therefore a detailed differentiation of healthy and diseased tissue and among different diseases based on sensor data is required. Spectral signatures of barley leaves, diseased with the foliar diseases net blotch (Pyrenophora teres), brown rust (Puccnia hordei) and powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis hordei) will be assessed and analysed.
