Institute for Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health (ITU)
Institution
Section overview
Description
Teaching and research at the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health focus Animal-Environment interactions, infectiology, infection prophylaxis and animal welfare in livestock production. In addition to veterinary students, participants in the BS program on equine sciences are trained in relevant aspects of Animal Hygiene ans Environmental protection as well.
The diagnostic services comprise cultural, molecular and serological diagnostics of zoonotic pathogens in livestock animals.
The main areas of research are the development of prophylactic and intervention measures against zoonotic agents and antibiotic resistant microorganisms in animal husbandry. Furthermore, the impact of biocides and herbicides on zoonotic and on environmental microorganisms is studied.
