Optimization of the nutritional quality of the oat grain by breeding research
Project
Project code: JKI-ZL-02-3160
Contract period: 01.10.2002
- 31.12.2006
Purpose of research: Applied research
In this AB-QTL analysis, advanced backcross progenies of a cross between a beta-glucan rich genebank accession and an oat cultivar will be analysed with molecular and agronomical methods to find DNA markers associated with traits of importance. AFLP and SSR markers will be developed and used for this purpose. A multistage strategy shall lead to competitive oat lines with elevated beta-glucan content. For this purpose, DNA markers will be mapped and used to combine molecular and conventional breeding methods.
In addition to the successful agronomical examination of the BC2F5 population more than 170 AFLP-markers and 27 microsatellites have been developed which are informative in the mapping population.
