Irrigation and water demand of energy crops
Project
Project code: JKI-PB-08-1169
Contract period: 01.02.2009
- 31.12.2012
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is (a) to identivy energy crops with a high water use efficiency, (b) to integrate these crops into a production system for energy plants and (c) to develop an efficient irrigation management for energy crops. The project especially contributes to the main target 2 ('developing the potential or renewable resources') of the research plan of Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection (BMELV). Because renewable energy sources are largely CO2-neutral and represent an alternative source of income for people in rural areas, the project also contributes towards the BMELV main target 3 ('Perpektives for rual areas') and main target 4 (Climate protection and adaption to climate change').
