Emission and operation characteristics of a biomethane fuelled tractor with pilot injection engine – Investigation on a tractor test stand and in practice
Project
Project code: BE/14/27 (EW/13/49)
Contract period: 01.07.2013
- 31.12.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
Domestic biofuels can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and can increase the security of fuel supply. For currently available biofuels, such as biodiesel and vegetable oil fuel the suitability for agricultural machinery was often demonstrated. However, for the usage of biomethane as a fuel for agricultural machinery, there is almost no experience. The aim of the project is, to scientifically accompany the first available Valtra biomethane tractor in Germany for about two years of practical use. The tractor will be investigated by repeating measurements in terms of power output, fuel consumption and emission performance. Furthermore, the operation behaviour and suitability for daily use will be demonstrated in a field test on a state-owned farm.
