Monitoring of Fusarium species and development of genomic tools for a more efficient breeding of oats
Project
Project code: JKI-ZL-08-8025
Contract period: 01.12.2020
- 01.12.2023
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: cereals, oat, oat breeding, resistance, plant health, mycotoxines
The present oat research project was established by main actors of oat breeding and research in Germany and aims at improving oat breeding, increasing agro-biodiversity, and promoting the oat value chain. The project is structured into four work packages (WP). WP 1 is focussed on monitoring Fusarium species collected at 25 sites in Germany and on the detoxification level observed in oats after inoculation. In WP 2, cross-resistance of oats against three Fusarium species will be studied, as well as the role of trichome type as a potential source of variation in resistance to Fusarium. WP 3 comprises sequencing and assembling of the whole genome sequence of three modern oat cultivars. In WP 4, an initial stage of a recurrent genomic selection programme will be established.
