Investigations of resistance in wheat cultivars as well as genebank accessions to loose smut (Ustilago tritici f. sp. tritici) as a basis for the development of genotypes suitable for eco-farming systems
Project
Project code: 2803OE646
Contract period: 15.04.2004
- 30.04.2007
Budget: 131,666 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Winter and spring wheat cultivars are evaluated in field trials carried out on eco farms for resistance to loose smut after artifical inoculation. Besides this an ELISA procedure is developed and different isolates characterized for virulence. This project aims at recommending cultivars suitable for eco-farming with respect to loose smut resistance. Besides this, it will be the basis for eco breeders to incorporate this trait. This project contributes to enhancing eco farming.
