Non-invasive determination of water and salt content with a portable microwave resonator
Project
Project code: 0315530
Contract period: 01.01.2009
- 31.12.2014
Purpose of research: Basic research
Based on the dual-mode sensor technology introduced by EMISENS, a portable and battery powered handheld device for the investigation of crops and grapes will be developed and optimized. This method allows for extremely fast and non-invasive measurements of the complex dielectric permittivity of plant tissue at two different frequencies in the range from 100 MHz to 3 GHz, which will enable the determination of water, acid and mineral content. The device will be modified and optimized for different crops and grapes. The dependence of the complex permittivity from growth conditions and draught initiated stress will be investigated systematically aiming towards practical applications such as the assessment of quality and maturity of different crops and grapes.
