Determination of the pest status of Tilletia controversa
Project
Project code: JKI-AG-08-1152
Contract period: 01.10.2016
- 31.05.2018
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Keywords: crop protection, cereals, Tilletia controversa
Dwarf bunt of wheat (Tilletia controversa) is a pest of winter grain (especially winter wheat and spelt). Tilletia controversa is a non regulated pest in Germany but in many non EU-countries it is a regulated quarantine pest. Therefore information on the pest status, distribution and pest free areas are very valuable. Currently the knowledge about the distribution of Tilletia controversa within Germany is not satisfying. Because of the climatic situation the distribution of Tilletia controversa is probably limited to the southern federal states of Germany. Unfortunately there is no reliable data available to verify this assumption. With this project the JKI coordinates a surveillance program of Tilletia controversa in winter wheat in the federal states Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein. Target of the surveillance program is to determine the pest status of Tilletia controversa in winter wheat in the above mentioned federal states and if possible to identify pest free areas.
