Biodiversity in forest ecosystems includes the complex interrelations between flora and fauna. To understand these relationships knowledge about genetic fundamentals both of the forest tree species and the defoliating insects are necessary. The green oak leaf roller offers the possibility to study co-evolution between host and parasite, because it is feeding on the genus Quercus only. Therefore it can be establish as a model system. Aspects of this working area are the enhancement of understanding genetic fundamentals of host and parasite as well as better knowledge on the phylogeography and migration of the green oak leaf roller. The results provide information on the migration capacities and historical distribution of the green oak leaf roller. This information is important for forest management to predict future pest outbreaks and gradations.
