FutureBioTec: Future Low Emission Biomass Combustion Systems
Project
Project code: N/09/31
Contract period: 01.10.2010
- 31.12.2012
Purpose of research: Applied research
In order increase the utilisation of biomass for energy production harmful emissions such as fine particulate matter, nitric oxide, carbon monoxide and organic compounds during combustion need to be reduced. Therefore, further technology development towards low emission combustion systems for small and medium-scale heating units is necessary while using primary measurements.
The goal is to reduce carbon monoxide, organic carbon, nitric oxides and particulate emissions in wood stoves and boilers while using primary. This will be done by air staging, excess ari ratios, grate design and the integration of automatic combustion control units. Besides the primary measures also secondary measurements for emission reduction such as electric particle precipitators will be compared and evaluated. Another technology for emission reduction is the use of condensing heat exchanger.
