Energy saving and efficiency enhancement in horticultural production by LED-Systems
Project
Project code: EW/13/55
Contract period: 01.09.2013
- 31.08.2016
Budget: 594,340 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
It is known that different wavelengths and light intensities influence plant growth in different ways. However, detailed studies of the root and shoot development in ornamental plant cuttings under different lighting conditions, are rarely found. For economic, environmental and phytosanitary reasons for ornamental gardening companies, a fast and secure rooting is extremely important. The aim of this research project is the examination of the LED technology as an alternative to energy-intensive sodium discharge lamps.
The effect of spectral ranges and intensities to the growth of root and shoot system in Calibrachoa cuttings is the main part of the studies. In addition, the content of chlorophyll and carbohydrates will be quantified. The analysis of energy consumption by LED research modules, will show information about the options of energy saving potential in horticultural production chains.
