Quantitative determination of plant substances aming to improve breeding and cultivation

Purpose of research: Applied research
Because of the non-invasive character and the variability of sample application, vibrational spectroscopy offers a fast and reliable tool for the identification of plant constituents by characteristic absorptions even in complex samples. Hence, predictions about content and distribution of special substances in the sample are possible. Furthermore, extensive sample preparations necessary for conventional analyses (HPLC, GC) can often be avoided. Quantification models for the determination of active compounds or the composition of plant material for the evaluation of food quality, production processes and breeding success should be formed with the help of spectroscopic methods. Actual projects represent the further development of spectroscopic calibration models and their usage for the quantitative determination of valuable plant substances for fennel (ZG-4150), caraway (ZG-4149) and lemon balm (ZG-0001).
