To understand the complex causes of winter losses and to be better able to avoid them in the future, a Germany-wide collaborative project of the 'Working Group of the Bee Research Institutes' started 2004. For several years on approximately 150 beekeepers and 1,500 hives colony development, diseases, plant protection measures, honey flow, climate, etc. are recorded and correlated with losses possibly related.
