Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS)
Institution
Section overview
Description
The tasks assigned to BfS are mainly stipulated in laws and ordinances. BfS applies the state-of-the-art of science and technology to fulfil these tasks. The Act relating to the establishment of BfS specifies that BfS does research in order to fulfil its mission.
This research is uniquely aimed at fulfilling the stipulated tasks and it can therefore be said that its role is to "serve" the overall objective. Research done at BfS is thus different from research done at universities, which is aimed at providing new insights.
