Enhancing the economic value of organically produced cash crops by optimizing the management of soil fertility
Project
Project code: 2808OE006
Contract period: 01.08.2008
- 31.12.2011
Budget: 195,386 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
With the funding for this project (WP4) is to be fulfilled the following purposes:
WP 4 will deal with soil compaction and processing and their influence on the yield and N2 fixing performance of the legumes, the soil water balance and the occurrence of plant diseases. The aim is to derive recommendations for site-specific operational and optimal intensity of tillage and minimizing mechanical soil contamination.
The project has several objectives, e.g.:
- The determination of the status quo on organic farms, referring to the functionality of soil structure in the main root zone and its key factors and the procedures used for soil cultivation, the agricultural machinery used there, etc.
- Analysis of the relationships between soil structure characteristics and land use of technology, depending on location and management
- Analysis of the effects of soil structure characteristics on yield, N2-fixing performance of the legumes, the soil water content and the occurrence of plant diseases.
- Analysis of the effect of different processing strategies on energy consumption and CO2 emissions on environmental goods
- Derivation of recommendations from the findings.
