Electron microscopical and molecular biological investigation of PVM- infection in Solanum jasminoides
Project
Project code: JKI-EP-08-2234
Contract period: 01.07.2013
- 31.12.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
The devastating effects of infectious entities like viruses or viroids are clearly illustrated by a modified symptomatic phenotype. Improved sequencing and diagnostic technology demonstrated that viral sequences are ubiquitously present in the biosphere even if the signs or symptoms of infection are not obvious.
We use a microscopic-molecular biology approach to gain first insights in the dynamics and plasticity using Solanum jasminoides either infected with Potato virus M (PVM) alone or carrying a mixed infection by a carlavirus and various pospiviroids. Potato virus M, the carlavirus under investigation, occurs latently in S. jasminoides as well as pospiviroids do.
