Optimization of hop breeding through the analysis of genome and metabolite data
Project
Project code: 5435
Contract period: 01.07.2015
- 31.12.2016
Budget: 85,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Marker assisted breeding or precision breeding is a well-established method in breeding programs of main crops and animal livestock. The method allows to predict the breeding value for a certain genotype based on the genetically background, which saves time-intensive and costly phenotyping. The aim of this project is to establish this innovative plant breeding tool also for the specialty crop hop and thereby support hop breeding to develop new aromatic and resistant hop cultivars on a shorter time scale.
