Renovation and promoting high quality control posts in the European Union
Project
Project code: FLI-ITT-08-CE-0011
Contract period: 01.01.2011
- 31.12.2012
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The protection and welfare of animals during transport has received increasing attention in recent years. During transport, the well-being of the animals is affected. Since 1997, the EU regulates the protection of animals during transport, the rules in this area, among other things, require that animals that are transported over a given time are to be deposited in so-called control posts. The welfare of animals during their stay in these control posts before and after the renovation will be recorded and compared by an independent scientific evaluation system. The data gained from this are used to create a certification system for inspection bodies. Furthermore, an EU-wide online booking system for control posts is built up and there are e-learning modules developed to raise the awareness of animal welfare and animal protection in all stakeholders in the transport process and to provide information on the subject.
