Institute of International Forestry and Forest Products
Institution
Section overview
Description
In 1931, the Institute of Foreign and Colonial Forestry was founded, marking the beginning of another important era of research and education in tropical forestry. In 1940 the institute moves to Reinbek near Hamburg. After having been closed in the Second World War, the Tharandt Faculty of Forestry was reopened in 1946 and in 1961 the first group of students from tropical countries is registered (9 Vietnamese). Two years later the newly founded Institute of Tropical and Subtropical Forestry took over the coordination of the studies in Tropical Forestry. In 1995, the establishment of a two-year M. Sc. course opened a new chapter in the long-lasting tradition of education in tropical forestry at Tharandt.
