Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences
Institution
Section overview
Description
At the beginning of 2008, the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe – University of Applied Sciences was renamed the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe – University of Applied Sciences. The university has three campuses: Lemgo, Detmold and Höxter. The establishment’s new name is an expression of its close ties with the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL: East Westphalia Lippe). OWL is situated in North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW), western Germany. The city of Hannover is 100 kilometres to the east and Cologne is 200 kilometres to the southwest of the university. The Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe – University of Applied Sciences emanated from the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe – University of Applied Sciences, which was founded in 1971 (with sites in Lemgo and Detmold), and the Höxter University of Applied Sciences department, which was part of Paderborn University. Since the beginning of 2002, the new umbrella higher education institution has added to its strong technological and scientific departments other courses of study involving ecological and sociological aspects, economics, design and language instruction, to name just a few.
