Practicability of indicators for operational self-checking of animal welfare in the cattle farming (EiKoTiGer)
Project
Project code: 72238, 5995, FLI-ITT-08-Ce-0057
Contract period: 01.11.2016
- 31.03.2021
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to test and further develop selected animal welfare indicators for a self-monitoring on-farm. Indicators should be feasible and reliable for the welfare monitoring of cattle, pigs and poultry. In addition, different options of farmers’ training concerning the application of the monitoring tool will be addressed. An assessment framework regarding the welfare outcomes (target and threshold values, benchmarking) will be developed, discussed with stakeholders, and then be integrated in a user-friendly software based monitoring tool. This tool shall help farmers to monitor systematically and regularly the welfare of their ani-mals, to detect possible welfare problems and to control improvements.
