Collaborative project: Development of guidelines for the Integrated Pest Management in sugar beet and exemplary investigation of ecological and economical impacts of innovative use of Plant Protection Products – Subproject 2
Project
Project code: 2814204506
Contract period: 01.04.2008
- 31.01.2011
Budget: 139,078 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
In subproject 1, crop-specific guidelines for integrated crop protection in sugar beet cultivation were developed for the first time in Europe. A project-linked working group integrated crop protection was established which can advance the guidelines after termination of the project. The analysis of changes in plant protection in sugar beet revealed trends in weed occurrence associated with changing herbicide strategies as well as regionally different herbicide strate-gies and evaluated the application of fungicides and herbicides. In subproject 2, nationwide field trials were carried out. Three herbicide strategies including an innovative low-dosage strategy did not show different effects on edaphon, activity of the soil mesofauna or litter decomposition. The main differences were due to environment and soil tillage. The results from the field trials with different herbicide strategies were consistent with simu-lated environmental risks using the SYNOPS model and with the Toxic Unit calculated from translocation of active substances.
