Zoonotic Borna viruses – virus reservoir, virus detection, in vitro and vivocharacterisation as well as epidemiology (ZooBoCo2)
Project
Project code: FLI-IfE+INNT+IVD-08-HV-0074
Contract period: 01.07.2020
- 30.06.2022
Purpose of research: Applied research
Since the causal diagnosis of BoDV-1 in patients was for the first time confirmed by the ZooBoCo consortium in 2018, numerous new BoDV-1 cases in various geographical regions of Bavaria have been diagnosed, as well as another VSBV-1 case in a zoo. In addition to the existing VSBV-1 topic, we will focus on BoDV-1 in the second funding phase. As for VSBV-1, incidence, transmission routes, risk factors and clinical pictures in humans are not clearly clarified for BoDV-1 and a systematic case finding is necessary. As part of the overall network, the four sub-projects of the partner FLI will work on the comprehensive reservoir search for Bornaviruses, their genetic characterization, the isolation of these viruses and their characterization using in vitro and in vivo methods, the study of the spread and epidemiology of these pathogens and the human risk assessment through targeted prevalence studies.
