Climate Impacts and Sustainability of organic operating systems - an investigation of a network of pilot farms
Project
Project code: 2806OE353
Contract period: 01.12.2008
- 31.07.2014
Budget: 288,703 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
The first aim of the projects 06OE160 and 06OE353 is the analysis and evaluation of organic farming systems on the farmlevel. This research includes strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Using the examples of plant production and dairy production, the sectors with the largest turnover of greenhouse gasemission are explored and the main impacts on the emissions detected. The results will be used for farm consulting and for development of sustainable organic farming systems. The second aim is the analysis and evaluation of the sustainability of organic farms. The ecologic sustainability is estimated using indicators like nutrient and humus balance, energy use efficiency and soil protection. Beyond these aims, there should be the basis for long during systemic research on farms. With financial resources of the German ministry for agriculture conventional farms are evaluated with the same methods.
