Project
Project code: 2815409910
Contract period: 01.10.2011
- 30.09.2014
Budget: 106,758 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
BIO-LURE – Development of innovative infochemical traps for monitoring and mass trapping of phytoplasma vectors in pome fruitIn a sustainable agricultural production the amount of pesticides used for control of insect pests should be reduced as much as possible. Thus, innovative infochemical traps will be developed for monitoring and mass trapping of phytoplasma vectors in pome fruits for practical use. One one hand, these traps will help to reduce the spread of the phytoplasma diseases. On the other hand, they will allow to determine the period of time for effective spraying exactly, which will reduce the amount of applied pesticides significantly. By using currently generated knowledge on the role of infochemicals in pome fruit-phytoplasma-vector insect interactions (JKI), the applicants will create new active agents which will affect the behavior of both genders, in contrast to commonly used sexual pheromones, which affect only one gender. Together with the experience of the second applicant (Insect Services) in the development of chemically lured traps, we will develop a specific monitoring and control system, maybe supplied by repellent compounds (push-and-pull system).
