Description
Diagnostics of protozoan and helminth infections in production animals and wildlife. Classical parasitological as well as molecular techniques are implemented in the daily work Actively involved as the national reference laboratory concerning Trichinella sp. and Tritrichomonas foetus. Advisory functions are undertaken towards goverment authorities in regard to parasitological issues.
Current research is focused primarily on protozoan infections. In particular Eimeria sp., Cryptosporidium sp. and Giardia sp. of which the two latter are considered zoonotic.

- Development of harmonised schemes for monitoring and reporting of Echinococcus, Trichinella, Cysticercus and Sarcocystis in animals and foodstuffs in the EU (EFSA/Zoonoses/2007/01)
- Establishment of Next Generation sequencing for genomic analysis of bacterial pathogens in Europe
- Quantitative and qualitative detection of foodborne pathogens using real-time PCR and typing of the pathogens with DNA microarray
- VICE - Vector-borne Infections: risk based and cost efficient surveillance systems
